Today marks the end of my teaching practice, and I can't help but feel a mix of emotions. It has been an incredible journey filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable moments. When I started my teaching practice, I felt a combination of excitement and nervousness. I was eager to apply the theories and techniques I learned in my education courses, but I was also anxious about handling real students in a classroom setting. My mentor teacher was incredibly supportive, guiding me through lesson planning and classroom management.
As the days passed, I began to build strong connections with my students. Throughout the teaching practice, I encountered various challenges. Some lessons didn't go as planned, and classroom disruptions tested my patience. However, each challenge taught me valuable lessons about flexibility, adaptability, and the importance of maintaining a positive and encouraging learning environment. We started with 11 people and ends with 13. We shared ideas, supported each other during difficult times, and exchanged constructive feedback. The collaborative environment enriched my experience and encouraged me to become a better teacher.
This teaching practice has not only enhanced my teaching skills but also fostered personal growth. I have become more confident in front of a classroom, improved my communication skills, and developed a deeper sense of empathy and understanding for the students' needs.
As the final day approaches, I find myself feeling sad to say goodbye to my students and colleagues. I will miss their laughter, the moments of discovery, and the joy of teaching. This teaching practice has taught me that teaching is not just a profession but a calling. The impact a teacher can have on young minds is profound, and I am determined to continue striving to be the best educator I can be.
This week went so fast that we are in hurry to complete all our works. I had completed the achievement test by wednesday and the heath and physical education class by friday. We gifted the weighing scale to the school aand the headmaster received it thankfully. We gave teachers and students some sweets as a token of our love. The magazine regarding APJ Abdul Kalam was published in the school assembly on thursday.
As I conclude this reflective journal, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to have experienced such a meaningful teaching practice. The bonds I've formed, the skills I've honed, and the memories I've created will forever hold a special place in my heart. I look forward to implementing the insights gained from this teaching practice in my future classrooms. I aspire to inspire, guide, and empower my future students to become lifelong learners, just as my mentor teacher and teaching practice mates have done for me.

Seventh week, the second last week of teaching practice. The First day, our principal and another faculty from our college visited our school to enquire about us. Wednesday, in remembrance of APJ Abdul Kalam, a quiz competition was conducted and Anashwar and Haripriya got the first and second prizes. For the remembrance of the great man, we decided to make a magazine regarding him and his work, etc and requested the students to prepare articles on the same. Many students bought articles, his drawings, and prizes for the quiz competition were distributed in the next day’s assembly. Saturday was also a working day to compensate for the holiday of Muharam.
On Monday, my concerned option teacher from college came for a second observation and that was a surprise visit actually. I prepared for the class and rectified the last time mistakes. I took the section algebraic method in Concept attainment model again for the observation class and the students well-behaved in the classroom. The observation sections are over now. The teacher sat there for the first 15 minutes, so after that I continued with the portions to be taken. This week I took 4 lesson plans and by Thursday, completed the unit equations. Saturday was also a working day, but I didn’t class because of the Atal Tinkering programme for the students.
Completed 24 lesson plans so far.
Sixth week of teaching practice. The week started with a holiday and on the next day, Tuesday, another holiday because of the demise of our former chief minister Oommen Chandy. So after a four day holiday we went back to school and continued our work. As usual, I engaged in all school activities and also helped in serving mid-day meals the whole week. This week was a little messy. We were shifted from our room to a congested place and the dust from the construction made us feel coughing and wheezing, So we requested the headmaster to change our place and we were moved to the higher secondary block.
On Thursday, we conducted a quiz competition for high school students on behalf of ‘chandradinam’. Many students participated, among them Abhijith, Aditya and Ahmed Farhan got first, second and third prizes respectively. In the school assembly, the prize for the winners of Basheer dinam quiz competition and Chndradinam quiz competition were distributed by the school headmaster.
Saturday is also a working day to compensate for the karkidaka vavu holiday. A special assembly was there to announce some important matters regarding the mathrubhumi newspaper distribution to all classes sponsored by the Elampal cooperative society. So important members from each office were present in the school assembly along with the headmaster. And on the same day, newspapers were distributed in each class.
From wednesday onwards, the students had the Little kites 3D printing camp and it was till friday, so I get only two periods in VIII A on saturday. I took the algebraic method using the concept attainment model. The students developed the concept from the examples and non-examples given, an easy class it was.
Thursday, as usual we had a school assembly and was conducted by X B students. The school assembly was well-planned and organized by the teachers and students of X B. Thereby, distributed the prizes for quiz competition conducted on World Environment Day and KPSTA population day by the school headmaster. He encouraged the students by showing the achievements in each school assembly.
My first 15 lesson plans were completed last week, so I conducted the diagnostic test on Monday and its remedial teaching on Tuesday. I found many students got confused in writing the denotation of sides and angles. First I made clear about the confusions they were facing and then moved to the most frequent question that they made wrong. On Wednesday, I had class observation by our college mathematics teacher. I planned to take the new unit ‘Equations’ using the ICT method, but unfortunately the power went off, so I took the class in the normal way with no charts or activity cards. The teacher asked to prepare well for the next observation in an activity method and appreciate the current class and went out. This week I only got two lesson plans in a day. On Friday, due to Little Kites Camp, I didn't get the regular periods.
Completed 18 lesson plans so far.
Fourth week of teaching practice, this week was full of heavy rain. Thursday was a declared holiday by the District collector. The school ground was muddy and people had difficulty walking through, so students came to school wet. July 05 was celebrated as Basheer dinam and we conducted a quiz competition regarding it. Devika (X A), Abhimaya (VIII A) and Abhijith (X A) got the first, second and third places respectively.
For VIII A, completed two lesson plans on Monday and half of the unit was taken for the test paper on Tuesday. Checked their answer sheet and found out that some of the students had difficulty in writing the symbol of angle and to write the sides. The test paper was for 15 marks and the average score they had is 9. Completed the last section of the unit, the construction of bisectors by Wednesday and announced a unit test by Friday. Thursday was a declared holiday due to rain. Friday was the unit test for 20 marks and out 36 students, 32 attended the test and the class average is 12 marks. Diagnostic test to be conducted in the class. Rest of the time other than class period, I prepared the questions for the same.
Completed 16 lesson plans so far.
Second week of teaching practice. This week was celebrated as vayanavaram as a part of vanayadinam on June 19, 2023. Afternoon, we conducted an assembly and pledged on vanayadinam and an announcement was made on the poster making competition, quiz competition, etc. We conducted daily assemblies and in assembly, daily news were read and reviews on any book were shared by the students also. We conducted poster making competition on the topic 'maaruna vayanasamskaram' and Vaishak S and Ajmal Sha of VIII A got first prize and Aswin from VIII A got second prize. On Monday, we reached the school on time and signed the attendance register in front of the headmaster. As usual the school timing is 10:00 AM - 03:45 PM. The day started with school prayer. Second period I had class in VIII and started the chapter by giving an introduction to the unit “Equal Triangles”, through the inquiry training model. This model is very new to the students, so first I explained it and they gradually stepped into the track. I showed them the video that I prepared for the e-content which includes the first section of the unit - sides and angles, how they flip and form many possibilities to be equal triangles. On Tuesday, fourth period I had class in VIII. I took the rest of the section and entered the exercise part of that section. On Wednesday, I got the first two periods to teach in class VIII, completed the exercise section of sides and angles. Entered to the second section ‘Two sides and an angle’ by thursday. On Friday, some of the exercise part was done in the classroom.
Class VIII has the strength of 36 students and they were evenly responding to the questions asked and this made maintaining the classes even more effective, energetic and interactive. The video showed them and the models of the triangles made them understand the concept easily. Completed 5 lesson plans this week.
